Out of date NCT

Car failed the NCT last year and it took me a few months to get the right part. The NCT was up inJune 2023. NCT now booked at the end of the month and if it passes do I immediately rebook for another test or is there some way you can pay them twice and get the certificate into 2025? Thanks

In order to not get a test till June 2024 I think you have to wait to test the car after the date in June 2024. So lets say it was out 12th June 2023 you will have to wait to test the car something like 15th June 2024.

I could be wrong too as this is coming straight from my head and I could be remembering it ass ways.

You’re within the 90 days before the anniversary of testing so you’ll get a cert for a year. Presuming the car is over 10 years old.

Only commercial vehicle testing (CVRT) punishes people for delayed tested, not the NCTS.

NCT does punish you for delayed testing, it just resets 90 days before the anniversary of your expiry date.

How does the CVRT punish you? Do you have to pay for the periods you missed the tests?

If your test is out for a year or more then you only get a cert for 6 months or to the next anniversary date of testing, whichever is sooner.

If a car has not been tested for 4 years and has now been transferred to a new owner.

Will the new owner have to back date the past 4 years NCT tests or will a new NCT be enough. Car is nearly 20 years old

(It's been off the road for past 4 years as owner was in nursing home before passing recently )

No Motor tax holiday or NCT holiday was applied for at this time.

New owner is only liable for motor tax from the date the ownership is transferred. Arrears are wiped in transfer of ownership.

They’ll get an NCT to next anniversary of NCT testing for that car, no backdating is done. You can get that date on the NCT website.
