Triton t90z cycling between hot and cold

My Triton t90z was cycling between hot and cold every minute or so, so we haven’t used it for a month. Turned it on now and it’s not heating at all , has a higher pitch than normal and smelt a little bit too. I had replaced the value a few months back because it was dripping a little bit. Is it obvious what the problem is this time? If so what part to I need?

The hot & cold cycle is from a blocked or spurious shower head or hose. Rarely, but sometimes it could be a blocked filter.

The issue with the cold only water could be an airlock or a faulty TCO.

    Try these basic troubleshooting tips

Element is goosed. €95 online. Too much limescale.

Hmmm… when I got the new valve, I also replaced the head and hose. I got trident parts. But the holes in the head are so small they fill with limescale after just a few days of use. So I recon this could be relevant, or limescale in general.

I had to replace the element in our washing machine last year because of limescale but other than that we haven't had anything else break because of it after 6 years in the house.

If you need to clean the heads on a weekly basis then I'd suggest replacing the shower or the heating can.

Ok with the shower head removed, I now seem to be getting a consistently warm output. So the show head must be the issue after all. :) I need to get a shower head with larger holes I guess. When I upgraded the shower, I bought the Adam triton shower head.

Assuming you bought a Triton head and hose then the holes are the perfect size

Solenoid replacement resolves no water or not being able to stop the water

If new genuine shower head and hose still causes hot and cold then most likely heating can is caked with limescale. If you bought spur head & hose then they are most likely causing the problem.

Most spurious heads have the wrong size & amount of holes to allow the shower to function correctly

This is what the shower head looks like. I unblocked most of the holes but some are still blocked.

I replaced the valve previously because of a drip, which fixed that issue. And I replaced hose and head then too. But a short time later the hot cold issue started.

    That should work perfectly.

When using that head what are the jets of water like? Are they all in formation or are they shooting water askew?

Did you replace the shower hose? Is it a genuine triton hose?

Yeah I replaced the hose too since I got a kit and updated both. The jets are going out in funny directions. Hadn't thought about that to be honest. What would that indicate?

Water is also dribbling around the edges of the head

It inticates the the heating can is caked with limescale. The limescale flakes off & blocks the holes in the shower head.

It's looking like a new Triton t90sr silent shower might have been a better option rather than repairing & upgrading

You could try submerging the head in a jug full of vinegar, and even poor vinegar down to head connection to try and dissolve the blockage - leave it soak and see does it help

That will definitely clean the head but as it's a new one as it is, it's likely this process would have to be repeated every few days.
