Can your engine light come on for ma bang in the back ,

Sister superb got a bad enough bang on the back wheel arch yesterday today the engine light has come on ,

Could it be related or coincidence , she had the timing belt & water pump done a month ago .

Nobody here is going to be able to answer that accurately because we don't know what fault the engine management light is pointing to. So it may or it may not be related.

You would need to get the car scanned on a diagnostic computer to determine the fault code to suggest might be the problem.

I think what @bazz26 is getting at is that even a pic of which warning light it is may help with an answer.

Also a pic of what the damage looks like?

Ideally a fault code though, so many things can bring on warning lights.

I currently don't have either to hand ,

It was a pretty good bang, thinking maybe the crash sensor went off,

Is this the car that was side swiped by a truck?

The answer to your question of is it possible to happen after a bang is "anything is possible". As already said, better to have the code read by a garage or someone with OBDII to get an idea of what it might be.

enough of a whack that it could have damaged the exhaust system?
