Hi, anyone applied for the recent Revenue AP Open Competition Policy and Legislation? Deadline was 10 May 2024. No idea when the shortlisting will start.

Hi, Ive also applied for this. I emailed Revenue last wk and was told that they hope to have the shortlisting completed by end of June.

Do you think it will go straight to shortlisting with no aptitude testing then?

If so, stage 2 might be short, pre-recorded videos. A few there AP level comps seem to have gone that way.

@exitstageleft I hope there's no aptitude testing. I failed badly in the 2022 general civil service open AP competition 😮

@Avdel I saw from an old boards thread that the last panel from the 2022 competition expires in October 2024. So I think end of June sounds like a reasonable timeline

We are in for the long wait anyways.

This competition might move a bit quicker. It was advertised on PAS but you had to send your application direct to Revenue so looks like they are handling the rest of the competition. If thats the case I'd expect it to move a lot quicker. Ive a few friends in Revenue and from what I here they are desperate for staff at all grades.

that's very helpful insight @Avdel 😃 I don't see many other AP competition out in 2024 which I qualify to apply, so I will hold onto this one like my life depending on it no matter how long it takes LoL

Thanks for setting up this thread. I also emailed (this morning) and was advised that results of shortlisting should be within 2 weeks. The last specialised Revenue AP in tax audit and compliance (TAC) 2023 competition seemed to have moved very slow in placing candidates. I know this one is policy and legislation (TPL) but they used to run the TAC and TPL together using the same application form so I'm expecting that it would follow a similar pattern. The 2023 TAC went from shortlisting to interview stage, no video interview, I believe (I didn't pass shortlisting so can't confirm)

thanks @LouiseHarp 👍 fingers crossed that we all made it to the shortlisting stage. 🙏

I just got an email from Revenue stating that I am unsuccessful in the shortlisting stage. Ah well. Good luck to you all guys.

@CharteredSoul same here. I also didn't pass, disappointing but I'll request some feedback & move on.

Best of luck to those that are moving on to the interview stage.

I work in Revenue, its VERY VERY rare that an AP competition has an aptitude test, its almost always 2 interviews. Its been 17 years and i dont remember ever hearing of an AP competition having tests

Internal Revenue AP competition in late 2019/early 2020 had aptitude tests for the first stage. Unsupervised initially and then supervised in early 2020 before you were let through to interview.

Thats only a recent thing then, because from 07 when i joined up to 2017 they were just doing double interviews after shortlisting. Usually exams are a sign of a lot of people applying specially for internal competitions

Because it was constant complaints from HEOS that they failed the first interview and others passed etc, usual office drama

@Avdel I know yours is an old comment but i have been shortlisted for a 2025 AP role. In person interview in Dublin. Was it just one interview you did or were there other stages after the interview and at the interview was it just asking about your form your submitted? Just trying to see what might be ahead of me.

I interviewed for the position last year. I’m not sure how it will go this time given the new interview system. It’s usually a 3 person panel. They’re very nice and it flies by. Best entry point to the Castle is by the small French cafe. I did well on all competencies (the old system) but for specialist knowledge. Hopefully you have a strong tax background. Brush up on world events. Pillars one and two. I think they are looking for someone who can communicate, lead and has strong tax experience. Good luck!
