Hi current car Skoda Octavia 161 doesn’t have road sign recognition function in car. As I understand this function is an option in some Škoda Octavia’s. Can this be coded into my car? And if possible where can this be done SE region? Thanks

Generally, the car needs to have lane assist hardware from factory for you to be able to code in traffic sign recognition.

Even if you have front assist/light assist with the camera, you can’t just code in traffic sign recognition.

I don’t have lane assist. I have auto lights and wipers etc. I have camera on mirror see pic attached. so I presume traffic sign recognition is not compatible with my car then.

There are 2 types of camera, I believe it depends on the type of camera.

My understanding is that cars specced with lane departure have a colour camera, which is what sign recognition needs.

what trim level is your car?

Usually cars with traffic sign recognition have a triangle camera cut out where the rear view mirror is, like this:

I've heard of people having it retrofitted in the UK but it's expensive and not worth it IMO

You don't have a camera, that's the rain sensor.

The lane detect/road sign camera would be facing forward, and as mentioned, inside a triangular cutout.

Even within brands, or within models, even if you have a camera it can be difficult to know what can be coded.

I'm not sure on Skoda (VAG) specifically but generally, a basic camera is used for auto-dipping headlights, and a more advanced camera for lane departure warning, road sign recognition, and auto-dipping headlights.

Sometimes, the manufacturer would just standardise the more advanced camera, so you may be able to get sign recognition on a car which otherwise only has auto-dipping headlights, but it would be less likely that you could get lane departure, as that might need a different steering rack or ABS controller.

I think Skoda is pretty complicated when it comes to what can or cannot be added. We had one which had lane assist which by all accounts is camera based. Auto dip full beams can be added via Skoda connect, albeit at a ridiculous price. But apparently sign recognition cannot as it has to be done at factory level.
