Truck and/or Bus driving licence

Thinking of undertaking a truck or bus driving course / licence over the next few years.

I have no immediate need for these licences and do not drive professionally for a living. But thinking that they would be nice to have for 10-12 years time when i'm retiring from my main career and have the option of some casual, flexible part-time work.

Is it a waste of time when I won't be actively driving such vehicles in the intervening years?

    Any advice is very welcome.

Can't really advise from a work POV but did the C1 without any CPC in 2022 and didn't take much effort, 5 year renewal cycle however and extra medical. Was lucky enough that the medical cert for the learner permit was still in date for the full licence. Obviously you've got to layer up costs for truck and bus, and you'll need rigid before artic if you're thinking of going that direction.

You could start off with getting an 18 seater minibus license. No need for any additional lessons or learner permits as far as I know.

Is it best to do cpc at the same time as licence? Or can it be easily achieved separately at a later stage?

I can't answer as I have never done a CPC nor am I looking to.
