Game stick recommendation.

hi all,

I’d appreciate a recommendation on a game stick type setup that has loads of the old games on it like Mario brothers, Mario kart, sonic, street fighter, bomberman etc.

Plus if there were any decent quality racing car games with good graphics and flight simulator etc.

(lol I’m not asking for much am I!!)

Is there a game stick that will do that?
My other option was I was gonna buy a second hand PlayStation 3 or 4 or something like that.

A decent and very cheap option would be to buy a Nintendo Wii and softmod it.

Tons of decent games for it, including all the title you mention.

For equally small money a Xbox Series S is good gaming device paired with a Xbox live subscription, plenty of the best current titles to stream for less than the price of a new game a couple of times a year

Absolute cack, and truly terrible controllers to match. Your phone with a Bluetooth controller would walk all over it.

Well I’d be willing to spend maybe €200 if it got me some decent games that the kids can play like sonic and grand tourismo etc.

Would I be better off going for a ps4?
PS5 looks to be out of budget.

For that budget, you'll get something very capable of those systems. I wouldn't bother with a PS4/5 tbh.

You'd get a Raspberry Pi4 or Pi5 for that money, with a nice case, two decent controllers, and a good sized sd card for games. Then you'd install something like Retro Pie on it, add the games you want, and play away. It'd destroy any of those 'retro box' things on the likes of Aliexpress etc.

You could also buy a small second hand PC for the same money, an be able to emulate all the way up to PS3/Nintendo Switch even.

But any of those game stick things will be very poor in comparison to the above.

ok that’s interesting.
Is there a guide on how to install retro pi and any pointers as to where you’d then download the games?
You put the games on the SD card and then plug the SD Card Into Pi5 yeah?
You’d then use retro pi as an operating system?

Pretty much it yeah. There's some setup involved, but there's so many guides and tutorials out there now it's very easy to follow.

You'll find tons of them on YouTube, speicifc to what model Pi you get etc. As for the games, can't help you finding them but in this day and age they're all only a search away.
