Indigo.ie to Gmail no longer working

Set this up for a family member some years ago. A Gmail account to pick up messages from an indigo.ie address whilst still keeping the appearance of it. The Gmail no longer seems to be receiving messages.

It says :Connection Error

Server returned error. We were unable to locate the other domain, please contact your provider.

As you probably know indigo.ie is owned by EIR now - maybe a call will clarfiy the situation.

As far as I can tell it's not a good idea to use indigo anymore.

indigo == eircom, I'm pretty sure the charge covered them too

IOL ones also ended up being charged for, BT Ireland having got out of consumer connectivity entirely

So, it's the server settings or something here, right? I don't know if he still has the password for the indigo.ie email, unfortunately.

It's complaining about the domain, so it looks like a DNS issue on the gmail side looking up the pop.indigo.ie address. It's resolving fine for me at least, so hopefully it's just a transient issue and will resolve itself. A password issue would give an authentication error back.

It only stopped working in the last few days. I think I probably only have spam coming through on mine but it was nice to keep my first email address. It looks like pop.indigo.ie is still live, maybe they just deleted all of the accounts at long last. Gmail says it stopped working on May 9th. The only reason I noticed was my mother said she had sent an email and sent to the indigo address by mistake. I don't think I've actively used it in over 20 years. There used to be a great usergroup!

Just to add I telneted in to pop.indigo.ie and topped the last message which was a test I'd just sent so it looks like indigo is still working but Gmail is having the issue.

mine stopped working on the 16th - I used to work there so it was an old staff account.

I've tried telnet access but it won't authenticate, though I'm not totally sure what the password was it's so long since I've used it. I sent a test mail to the indigo address and it hasn't bounced, which suggests it hasn't been deleted.

Looking at my Gmail I don't think it was still being used for anything important - I think when they announced the charges I went through my various accounts are changed email address on anything I cared about. Another relic of the old internet bites the dust.

Yeah, stopped about two weeks ago. What's the best course of action now? I was asked about setting up another Gmail address. I'm not sure that would help because people will still be emailing familymember@inidigo.ie and if I can't set up a filter directly from it, does that mean we're snookered?

Try login at mail2web.com, you can access the mail that way at least. Otherwise, you could try raise a case with gmail, or maybe try remove and re-add the rules for it.

There must be some simple pop3 forwarders out there. A quick google shows the one below. You would need an SMTP server to send to. I think google used to allow you do this in specific cases. Or there are other ways such as using Hmail Server which is a free SMTP server. That should be able to downlaod the email and forward to their gmail account.

An easy program to try is Popman. I just went in and deleted the 20 years of suspected virus emails that google left on the server.

Ideally, I'd get things sorted and close down the indigo.ie account, or have it forwarding on to Gmail. I've changed the outgoing reply to Gmail for now, but that doesn't solve the loss of emails since May 18. If I could retrieve them, that would be half the battle.

You can still set up access to the account in full mail clients like Thunderbird. I use that to fetch from my Indigo account and two other gmail accounts.

Yes, because it'll be your PC doing the DNS lookup, not googles.

No joy here. 1) Inbox comes through, but still a big gap of some weeks with no emails. Possibly because I've not set up the indigo.ie in Thunderbird. 2) Followed the video below and can't send an email.

I don't know what security so I just said autodetect and the same for authentication method.

Sending via indigo's mail server won't work, it's restricted to eir IP ranges. You'll need to configure the outgoing mail server for your current ISP. You should also be warned that some mail servers may reject mail sent that way if they're being overly paranoid.

Tried to ring Eir via 1901 to potentially looking at resetting the indigo account password. Couldn't get through to a person because we don't have an Eir account.

I copped I made as basic error after the last post. It's a gofree.indigo.ie email, rather than indigo.ie, so I had gofree.indigo.ie in the IMAP and SMTP settings.
