    Ive never used spikes

Just drill through side slots and big rawl plugs and screws with a big washer (or express fixings)

I wouldn’t remove the back timber plate if fixing that way either

Just drill straight through and use express fittings or big rawl plugs.

    Side fixings only imo

Sometimes a batten if too wide for box

    Thanks

I think the back plate is plastic, will look later. Side fixings tough to drill

The fixing won't have have the same strength if fixed at the back

A pulling force will rip the box out and it risks damp or worst case an ESBN refusal to connect if they spot the back fixings

They're within their rights to do so

Anyway looks like your one of these people who get the correct advise and then ignore it

God bless America and the ignore button

No fixing points on this box. Presume I drill through each side about half way down and use screws with washers, along with rawl plugs?

2 fixings each side from memory

Ducting from service pole to meter box must be ESB red

does same apply from meter box to CU

    Thanks as always

there’s no requirement for ducting but if you have a bit spare you could use it

Your rec might use swa or put your cable in conduit

So trench is dug for the ESB ducting from pole to location of new meter box and from there to where new CU will be fitted

What's the sequence here, does the new CU and cable from it to meter box need to be in place before ESB will do their piece?

    Thanks

yes. A certificate is generally required before esbn do their works.this can take a few weeks from when the certificate is issued .

an interim certificate can be issued by your rec to move things along. Some preliminary work needs to be done beforehand for this though.(new board fitted, new earth rod,new cable between board and meter box and associated ocpd device)

Thanks, just as well we put plenty ducts in yesterday!

Just looked at meter box, red hockey stick will come up through the predrilled LHS

Predrillled RHS side one to CU looks smaller diameter, can I enlarge it to take another hockey stick?

Generally a hockey stick isn’t required on the other side as this is the feed to the house and doesn’t go to the ground
esbn are quite fussy about the openings so if you are widening it make sure it’s a snug fit

Right so, hockey sticks have been fitted at pole and in wall ready to fit meter box.

cable duct is 700 down so hockey stick need to be extended to get up to meter box at 1.0-1.2 above FFL

Only now do I see that the vertical section of the hockey stick is 40 mm diameter but the bend and duct are 50 mm so how can the hockey stick be extended with 40 mm as all the fitting in Chadwicks are 50 mm

The LHS hole in the metro box takes the 50mm pipe neatly so are the hockey sticks wrong/fake?

Found a pre showing hockey stick is 44 mm OD so just need to extend it
