It's a 2020 and I quite like the interior and the gear changes are so precise and it's an enjoyable drive. It's a long time since I had a petrol manual and forgot how nice they can be to drive, even a kia cee'd !

It's a nice simple car, key start, halogen headlights, manual climate control and just a basic screen for radio which has buttons and knobs. No keyless entry.

I hate many modern car interiors that are all screens and software and digital instrument clusters, some of these cars have screens larger than many homes would have had TVs 30 years ago.

When driving they can be highly distracting, no proper buttons and knobs just menus and haptic "buttons"

Screens in my opinion were a solution to a problem that didn't exist and if I want a screen I can attach my phone to the dash ? what's wrong with that ?

Anyway, very impressed with the little turbo 1.0l 120 Hp, plenty fast really and surprising amount of low end torque.

Motorway 5.3L /100 km to 5.3 as I got home down to 5.2 on slower roads and I'm sure I can get it lower than 5.0L /100 Km off motorways on more local roads on a longer run.

Nice suspension and handling, it's a nice drive.

I think car manufacturers have lost the plot with all the in car entertainment and tech, cars are supposed to be for getting from A to B.

I am very aware of modern GDI issues but it's proven that the majority of issues are related to improper maintenance, regular oil changes help tremendously and any carbon build up can be addressed once aware of the potential issue.

I've a 2020 Ceed as well, diesel and an estate, but my third Ceed in a row. I've probably done 350k km across the three cars in the space of 10 years and would have gotten another one last year only for the fact that they are no longer doing the estate model in Ireland. Very reliable, solid drive, enough creature comforts to keep me happy and very good value considering.

Yeah I'm happy with it to be honest, nice interior, the 1.0L really surprised me.

I just hope they keep making cars that are not all screen, have analogue instrument cluster, key start, halogen headlights, to be honest all I want no is simplicity, less tech just AC, cruise control, heated mirrors and I'm happy.

  • best wishes. I’m sure this motor will bring you happiness, you have posted a lot over the years and always felt you were constantly nervous about your money situation money situation being too highly leveraged in the need to have a nice badge and fresh reg number, and nervous that either that your ev would throw up a big bill or depreciation concerns so wise that you have decided to rightsize to your expenses to match your budget. No more champagne lifestyle on a coca cola budget. PCP is a trap so great if you could talk about this more.

my only other feedback is that you were one of the pioneers and actually had the ev section set up. So you have promoted evs aggressively posting thousands of times of how crap ice is, but all the time harboured these secrets. Disappointing. Would you say it was a form of brainwashing or group think?

Thanks, yes I'm enjoying it so far.

I'm not a badge snob by any means, I Bought new Leaf because there was no real option, I had to have the leaf after test driving it because it was such a new experience. I got the i3 Rex 2nd hand at a very good price, the id3 being my big mistake only I had no idea from the relatively short test drive how bad the infotainment actually is, the ergonomics are shockingly bad and it isn't how a car should be in my opinion, it's dangerous too because it encourages eyes off the road which shouldn't be allowed. I can't begin to imagine how many accidents these modern cars with so much in car entertainment and menus are causing, even the digital instrument clusters many of which have endless menus and customisations options lol. Screens in cars now bigger than TV's in homes 30 years ago, crazy !

Screens were a solution to a problem that didn't exist.

I wouldn't say I've a coca cola budget in fairness and I have been mortgage free since 2017 and I pay no rent so I'd say I'm in a pretty good position than most people my age but this doesn't mean I want to throw away even more money on cars. I could have spent a lot more but I have some form of restraint.

I have expensive hobbies too such as Amateur radio and now motor biking.

Cars have got really expensive and I think many people have lost the run of themselves buying 40-50+ K cars when they have money in the bank for a 4 or 5 year old car but ignore it and go on the PCP, yes I think this is very foolish and I think the regulator needs to step in and cut back on the amount of PCP or eliminate it entirely. That's just my opinion. The Government are making an absolute fortune on VAT and VRT so why would they care if more and more people land themselves in debt ? they don't.

Car manufacturers are making SUV many are just taller hatchbacks with body kits to look big and they can charge 5-7 grand more, cars are loaded with tech to attract all the screen addicts, never been such a good time for car manufacturers, cheap credit.

The amount of people spending a fortune on the SUV really is incredible and the car manufacturers are laughing their heads off.

my only other feedback is that you were one of the pioneers and actually had the ev section set up. So you have promoted evs aggressively posting thousands of times of how crap ice is, but all the time harboured these secrets. Disappointing. I sure was a pioneer in EV, but you live and learn as you get older and gain a lot more EV experience. I have been driving EV for nearly 10 years and I am well informed as to the pros and cons and people with the smarts should take notice, they will take notice but hopefully the most important thing they notice is that new cars are a complete and utter waste of money, we all want a new car now and again but the Irish obsession with new cars and PCP and especially SUV in my opinion isn't healthy.

In the end I did what's best for me and I only hope by the time people go to trade their electric cars they get far more than I was offered and be able to find a dealer willing to trade and I'm sure they will if they want to buy a brand new EV but the reality is that I couldn't find anyone to take my car not even the VW dealer that I bought the id3 from, probably the fact I was looking for 2nd hand car is what went against me but most of the dealers I contact said specifically they would not take EV as trade in.

So all that + the range, public charging I no longer had the desire for if all that makes sense ?

Why did 3 different people from VW finance tell me a lot of people are handing back the ID cars ? are they regretting getting PCP, hate the cars, the EV experience isn't for them ? who knows, most of them are not on boards anyway, most of the motoring public are not here so will be hard to find out. 1 Woman told me it's causing ruptions internally.

I don't know what you mean by brainwashing, this is what Media and Government do, not me. I share my experiences as I go though them, thoughts, opinions it's up to people themselves to do what they want I don't force or never forced anyone to do anything so I don't know why you would be disappointed ? I can't say I'm always right because I'm not but my experience with EV over the years is real and not made up.
