Sorry for the possibly simple question but first sun holiday for years with the kids.

Can I put suncream into carry on luggage if it’s in the suitcase?

for all carry on (regardless of size), your liquids (including sun cream) can be max of 100ml (and up to 10 of them in a clear plastic bag)

Depends on what airport you’re flying from and if they have the new scanners.

You could just bring a small tube with you and buy some in supermarkets on your arrival.

Technically you can bring 10 100ml bottles through as long as they fit into the standard clear bag that they provide. Some security can be very strict, I brought my own IKEA clear bag that's larger than the airport ones and they wouldn't let me bring them through, had to transfer them to their smaller bag. All them didn't fit so had to throw one away.
