Mercedes E300h Battery Problems

Hi all,

Quick question (as I do not have many details).

A friend has a Mercedes E300h hybrid ("self charging" style, not PHEV).

I've read a bit about them needing replacement batteries, and that costing some serious money.

They tell me they brought it to an independent Mercedes specialist and they said 10k to fix, so I'm assuming it's a battery swap.

Are there EV specialists out there you'd recommend? A Merc specialist doesn't mean EV specialist as I learned when I had a Mercedes PHEV. A main dealer admitted they didn't have anyone trained on them.

OP a lot of problems might be traced back to the 12 v battery, was that checked?

I had one of those, and despite it overall being reliable on the Hybrid side, I'd be very wary of trusting ANY first opinion on it, particularly when you get a ridiculous price like that.*

As a comparison, this is around €500 (if it IS the battery) but there are a range of part numbers, and it may need to match exactly, and it could be a range of things.

When I called into Vitronix last year, he had an E300 BlueTec Hybrid there, and Vald is very knowledgeable.

*A friend of mine just last week had his 330e electrical system totally die on the side of the road (worse than my own 330e failure), and he was given a price over the phone from and independent of €7k. How they came up with this figure I have no clue, but it's almost what BMW charge for a FULL battery replacement, while BMW will do a single module (of 5) for €4k.
