Getting a teams message to come into the office and no one else does

hi folks a buddy of mine might be over thinking this but he got a teams message to come into the office because people from our HQ from abroad are coming over. He says that usually when that happens everyone in Irish office is notified by email but instead he got a teams message from one of his operating managers to come in. The ops guy who sent the teams message said it will be a full house - which I think he means everyone-but my buddy is concerned as no general email went out. Is he overthinking things?

He will. It’s just that no one else got an email to come in - we work hybrid. And when we have people coming in from abroad usually every one gets an email.

The message might have been BCCd instead of just cc'ing everyone. Or there are loads of more sophisticated ways of sending group mails

If people are coming over from abroad the usual method is sending an email to relevant people. My buddy got a Microsoft teams message sent only to him. Hence his concern

Honestly there could be a hundred different reasons.

Your friend should ask their manager or the person who sent the message, not you or an anonymous internet forum

We can't help you here, this guy needs to communicate with his own management and colleagues to find out what is happening within his own company.

If he has a relatively good relationship with the manager who told him to come in, he can just ask the manager for more details of who is going to be there, what's the plan for the day. I'm assuming they need people in for more than the optics of having bums on seats.

If he doesn't feel he can ask that, he'll just have to go in and see what happens. If they wanted to have a talk with him about something else in person (repromanding, etc), they'd hardly have lied about people coming to the office just to get him in.
