Hi,

Apologies if this is covered in other threads but wasn’t sure about some of the terminology.

Looking for some advice on what box to get. Need a set top box which can do both freesat and saorview at the same time. We have a pre-existing dish and we’re quite close to a saorview transmitter so don’t need a roof aerial. Hoping for 4K (even though there aren’t any free 4K channels yet) and a 1TB HD for recording.

With these boxes, can freesat and saorview channels be placed on the same EPG?

You missed out a very important bit, how much do you want to spend and what have ou got at the moment. a 1TB ssd is 75-80 euro.

Have a Sky Q box at the moment so I should be setup already to just plug in an FTA or Freesat box I’d imagine.

Would the Zgemma be a good fit? Looks like it can handle both Saorview and FTA satellite channels in the same EPG and has 7 days of future programmes on the EPG?

now that is a vital piece of missing information ie sky q. And a zgemma with 1tb is 270 and it will come with software installed but these boxes have a warning , in that there is a steep learning curve.

The skq q lnb will not work with any other fta enigma 2 box so you will need a new sky quad lnb about 25 euro and fit it.

Sky q is expensive so you will get money back quickly. I have a zgemma h7s available but only with a 128ssd. I got it from germany in feb 23 I think it has 2 years guarantee need to check. It was 227 all in and when I advertised it I got ridiculous offers. It comes ready to go with 4 images.

You can also look at a site world of satellite and they will configure i such a way it looks like freesat but you could email them, they gave offers and good suuport. Its for the UK maket. To get combined epg needs tweaking.

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like I might be better off just going with one of the easier to use freesat boxes and just have saorview running on the tuner in my tv.

Thanks for the heads up on the LNB. This must be why the satellite tuner on my tv can tune in all the FTA channels on Astra 28.2E but why I go to view them on the TV I keep getting a fault.

last question I guess. Will I still have to have the LNB changed if using a freesat box?

a lot of free info 😉 no but as I dont use those boxes double check and if they say yes ask them to send you a pic of their lnb
