Mattel released a toy range with a Wicked website on the back of boxes

The Wicked website is a porn site.

Wild swing between those reviewers who are genuine and those who are bought off?

well if the telegraph doesn't like it, it is probably doing something right

Visually spectacular, Ariana is clearly having the time of her life at various points, Cynthia erivo's voice is incredible and I had no idea who was actually cast outside of those 2 so some very pleasant surprises for me.

Could it have been 15 minutes shorter? Probably (Particularly one scene) but I really enjoyed it.

You’re supposed to enjoy Ariana Grande‘s character (as the ditsy blonde) but she was an a-hole in this.

Enjoyed at times but yes, definitely very long.

Meant to mention above, but In The Heights will take serious beating as the best musical adaptation I’ve ever seen. Wicked was good - but In The Heights was awesome

I love the show, but I just cannot muster up a single iota of enthusiasm for this. Partly because they were so annoying on the press tour, but mostly because it just looks like an optical migraine waiting to happen.

Haven't seen the musical so how does this compare to the stage production? Though looking on Google, this seems to be as long as the stage production on its own so not sure how they're doubling the length.

Part 2 goes beyond the stage version. The stage version finishes as Defying Gravity pretty much. Part 2 will be original and taking things from the novel.

The stage version does not end at defying gravity, the first act does.

Just bigger, Scenes don't feel dragged, they're just given much more scope to breath because they've created the whole world (having a full tower for defying gravity and an ocean for arrivals at chiz being 2 obvious examples)

Would like to go see this again hopefully in a couple of weeks. In hindsight I probably enjoyed more than I felt at the time.

The scene at the dance (same as the stage musical) was excellently done.

I enjoyed, my wife less so, daughter didn’t.

I haven’t seen the stage show, my wife had in London, so may have been a little bored.

I thought the acting was good. The songs were okayish, liked popular and gravity the best.

    I’ll see the sequel.

Said daughter pointed out who Ariana was apparently dating, which did take me out of the movie a little with an, ‘eh?’ response 😳

I enjoyed it, I have seen the stage show twice so knew the basics of the story. Sets were good, the CGI was tiny bit ropey in parts though. Songs good as expected.

The two leads were cracking, Grande did a very good job of channelling Chenoweth. The casting of Jeff Goldblum was genius. Some of the other casting I felt didn't work Michelle Yeoh for example. But overall really enjoyable.

You are so spot on with this take, in the heights was a joy so vibrant! It's a shame it didn't do too well at the box office, I saw it in the cinema and was literally the only person at thar screening.

I'm biased as I love the stage show and have seen it six times (and in two languages), but I thought this was pretty fantastic, the best movie musical since Chicago for me.

Cynthia and Ariana are incredible, actually all of the cast is great (even Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum, who people seem to be rather divided on).

Some of the big numbers are actually vastly better than their stage counterparts, I never liked Dancing Through Life but Jonathan Bailey and the choreography really turned it into a spectacle. I also usually skip I'm Not That Girl, but it's wonderful in the movie.

The only criticism I have is the muted colour palette and the climax of Defying Gravity, it's losing its impact when it's being so drawn out and chopped up.

I can't wait to hear No Good Deed in part 2!

Looks like something I'd enjoy watching at home, don't think I'd want to risk a sing-a-along in the cinema.

But… the interviews I've seen with Ariana & Cynthia are weird. I don't quite place it, they just seem unsettling.

    Cynthia is excellent i thought.

Arianna is hard to listen to and even harder to look at

If you're interested in it, I think it's worth going to the cinema for the scale and sound. No singing along at my screening anyway.

It's not half bad but it is a half a film and a long one at that. There were parts that really captivated me and I really am not a fan of musicals so it was definitely working for me at points but there was long stretches when my interest waned. The performances are genuinely excellent, especially Erivo who I'm really a big a fan of.

I'm not sure I'll see the second in the cinema because I can imagine it'll be near 3 hours and I don't think there's much of the story left to tell but I haven't read the novel or seen the musical so I could be wrong.
