2020 BMW X1 parking handbrake question

My mate in the UK has just bought a 2020 X1 and is adamant it doesn't have an auto handbrake, it just has a button handbrake.

I have googled it and unlike the older BMW it says in the new ones you need to enable auto handbrake in the settings rather than a button but he is adamant his car doesn't have an auto handbrake and it just has a manual electric one, that there is no button and no settings option.

He is driving this thing around and at every set of lights he is manually engaging the electric handbrake in an automatic car..

Surely this cannot be right?

Sounds right. My 640d had the option for autohold - you needed to engage it every time you started the car up. Have an i8 now and that has no auto hold at all!

Range Rovers are the same. Very annoying.

I feel bad now, I was telling him he was an idiot last night and the option must be in the settings if there was no switch haha

Can't believe a premium car brand would sell a car without that, I'm pretty sure my dad's base spec i40 over 10 years ago had it

The last X1 I had didn't have auto hold - had to engage the button to put the handbrake on. That was an xLine, but other M-Sport versions I had, had auto hold. Whether it was standard depended on the spec level.
