Quick one here, have moved into a new house and there is a strange bit of curved metal sticking out of the roof. Every other house on the street has one too and I've no idea what it is. Anyone any ideas? House built in 1954.

Hi ya! Curved copper pipe rather than just a metal rod? It must be an expansion pipe for the heating or cylinder.

    Looks like Nessie…..

But has to be some sort of expansion rod for the water or heating. Couldn’t be lighting rod, could it?

Get up into the attic and see what's on the inside.

Cheers for the replies. I took a look in the attic. It does appear to be the end of a copper pipe. Not connected to anything though.

Seems it's neither use nor ornament to use an old saying.

I'd be inclined to get rid of it at the first opportunity.
