It's an excellent phone. I've had one for two years and it's still going strong - so much so that I'm going to go billpay only instead of getting a new phone now the contract is up.

Convince the teenager that you'll put 450 in a savings account for them and instead buy them a perfectly fine cheapish Android phone for around one hundred and fifty bucks Literally does the same job.

Say that you have no issues doing this once every two years so they have a relatively new phone.

Tis far from getting six hundred bucks dropped on us on a whim most of us were reared as teenagers.

Your child will thank you in years to come when they are saving for a deposit for more important things.

Get insurance in case it gets robbed or broken.

Generally the more expensive the better the phone.

With iPhones it's as much about the brand as what it can do.

Never understand getting insrance for a €600 device. Roughly €90 a year for unlikely event that you're not guaranteed pay out on. Just save the money and keep that in reserve.

Tbh I thought new iPhones were more expensive and insurance was cheaper. I have neither.

Yeah the kid is careful enough with things so will skip the insurance

If the teenager has any money i'd get them to contribute a bit, ours only started taking care of her phones when she had to put her hand in her pocket to help buy them

Yes but compared to other insurance policies like car, home. health or travel, where you're covered for millions of euro, gadget insurance is ridiculously expensive and unnecessary in most cases.

Also maybe possible to add phone as specific item in your domestic home insurance policy at much less cost.

A kid I know either lost or was pickpocketed their iPhone within a week of getting it. That's what was in my head.

But thats all insurance. Be it a car or health. You’re paying just in case. I have mine on my house insurance. iPhone 15 pro. Less than €15 euro a year. I claimed years ago. With no issues.

I do agree the gadget insurance is a rip. But there are other ways to get it cheaper.

I use Swappie for my phones - no issues at all, reputable company and if you go for excellent condition the iPhone is practically new. They offer pretty cheap insurance now too and I’ve used that with no issue.

+1 for this. Got a phone from swappie recently and specified excellent condition and also requested a new battery. Phone looks like new and battery is perfect and all for a little over half retail.
