Lawn Disaster

My front lawn has been in really bad shape for a long time so this year I decided I'd try and sort it out. The ground is heavy and it had a bad moss infestation so my approach this spring was to scalp, scarifying, overseed and topdress. What I didn't bargain for was the moss had been suppressing a lot of weeds. Creeping buttercup and dandelion have now taken over large parts of the lawn and it looks worse than ever. It's almost completely out-competing the grass.

I'm thinking of applying a broadleaf selective herbicide to try and get back control? Or is this unrecoverable without starting from scratch?
