App - Speed Limits

    Hi all,

Daughter getting her first car soon and unfortunately has no (reasonable) option but to use the 123Go tracking device for insurance.

As part of that device, there's a 3 strike speeding rule and then they may cancel your insurance. Now obviously she won't be speeding and will typically only be on 50/60 Kmh roads. Additionally there are lots of 30Kmh road (and some 20kmh) roads. But obviously she has major worries about potential speed limit/signs not being exactly very clear.

Using Google Maps, it will typically tell you the speed limit of the road you're on, however there doesn't seem to be an audible alert if approaching/exceeding the speed limit.

Does anyone know if any app (or an add on for maps) that can do an audible tone for speed limits?

Be wary of those tracking type insurance. I had a chat to a broker and he told me that he spends a lot of his time trying to find insurance for these people that go over 3 times. It's recorded as a refusal. Think of anytime you buy car insurance and one of the questions is have you ever had insurance refusal. He advised against it. Son ended up with AXA via SuperValu insurance. Not cheap by any stretch. Switched to AXA on the next renewal.

Oh id rather she didn't, but the price difference is €1400 versus €3200, so she doesn't have much choice. She doesn't plan on driving massively the first year anyway, so hopefully she can pass her test within the year, so it's just a pain for 12 months..

Perfect thanks. I'd used Waze before but didn't realise it had the speed notifications. I'll let her know!
