hi folks, so we wanna walk the following beaches - Banna, Ballyheigue, Ballybunion - do loads of beach walks - but the Q is, where to stay? We would love somewhere small and local - experience the local pub - maybe meet locals - or just experience the local vibe.. like along the lines of TPs in Ballydavid - that kind of vibe - and somewhere to eat and sleep - bnb - hotel - does not need to be posh… where would ye locals recommend? TIA

    All good choices.

Ballybunion would be the biggest town but they all have their merits.

Listowel writers week is coming up so that could be good craic.

thanks but which would you recommend for a quiet staycation - with just a local pub/restaurant - maybe near water?

Ballyheigue is a lovely local village and you can walk Ballyheigue beach and on to Banna . Then drive Kerry head and walk Beale beach and Ballybunion beach.
Stay in either Ballyheigue or Ardfert both small but have local pubs and places to eat. .

Kate Brownes in Ardfert has nice food and pub atmosphere

I can highly recommend The Tides B&B in Ballybunion. Family run place. At edge of town (on Listowel side). It would be a bit of a walk to the beach, all right (1 mile or so) but great base to have for all the towns mentioned. Owner is mad keen golfer so can direct you on all the walks along Long Strand (thats the beach that runs along the golf course) . Short walk to a selection of pubs, some small & cosy and others bigger . If you want a room in a pub / guesthouse, I would go for O'Connors (locals call it Cooleys) at one end of town, or McMunns at the other end of town (almost on the beach there!)

    enjoy!

Make sure you check out beale beach also. About 6 km north of Ballybunion on the Shannon estuary. Fantastic long walk, huge beach when tide is out. Lovely drive to it with some beautiful views. Maybe a stop off at Bromore cliffs on the way also. Say hello to Mike. Will be a bit of life in Ballybunion that time of year aswell. Enjoy, post a few pics please.
