Hi folks currently on the look out for a new car around 2016 upwards on finance depending on car. In my dream job now and want to treat myself.

Just not sure what I want obviously the cars most people will say will be Audi A6 or BMW 5 series but for the price of a 2017 one you can get a new skoda or volkswagen tiguan R line for that.

Don't have any kids yet but don't want a three door something that is under rated but just as good as a Audi / BMW engine. My Mate got a Peugeot 308 2.0 GT Line Has all the extras, 2016 for 12k.

    Thanks for any advice

You certainly won't get a new Tiguan R Line for the price of a 2017 A6 or 5 series, and not much of a Skoda of any model.

Very little choice in modern 3 doors compared to years ago, they're pretty much not wanted anymore. That's why there's sport back variations of most cars now.

Have you ever owned a 3 door? They're a pain in the hole to be honest. Even letting people in and out the odd time is hassle.

But if you're insistent I'd say something like a fiesta St, golf, Audi A3, but back door variants will give you a much better owner experience.

You either want a prestige car or a new fairly normal new car . No point saying sure I could get new skoda for same price as a bmw that's a few years old

You need to know what you want in a car, at the moment I could suggest anything from 2016 up with a 40k budget, which covers just about everything.

Size/space, body type, fuel type, plug or no plug, new/old, you can have it all for 40k.

You can have a very decent A6 2016/17 for about half that budget. Or a much newer very decent car for half that budget too. Or spend it all of you want.

Draw up a shortlist, but be wary about blowing 40k on a car on finance just because you've got a new job. Especially anything already a good few years old.
