Looking for advice on a Cat D write-off

I'm supposed to be going to take a look at 2009 Honda Jazz this evening and ran a motorcheck report on it. Found out that it has a Cat D write-off in the UK on 04/01/2017. The mileage data seems to be well off, with the DoneDeal ad reporting 85k miles and motorcheck reporting 125k miles on 23/02/2017 (source UK Salvage).

Am I missing something or is this an easy decision to give this one a miss?

Cat D ca be very minor; but the mileage is astoundingly suspicious, and when adding 2+2, yeah, avoid. If it was 125k miles in 2017 its probably 200k+ now.

I’m sure there’s at least one other 2009 Jazz for sale with no cloud hanging over it. I’d buy that one.

85k miles and 125k KMs are very close to each other, could be that.

Or could be clocked by 40k!

Either way a small 2009 car like a jazz should be sufficiently cheap and even plentiful to just move on and look at the next one

A UK car will be recorded in miles in all documentation, not kms. So if it was 125k miles in 2017, it's going to be a lot more now.

Not really, if someone does a history check and enters the mileage in kilometres it will show up in kilometres for all future history checks

Even if that were the case, it's highly suspicious that it's only done 10k in 7 years. But the car check should give the original reg and then you can check the MOT records.

way too many red flags to even bother searching MOT records imo

OP I had a wrote off Honda civic that was just endless pain. I’m sure you can easily find a jazz that isn’t throwing up all sorts of flags!
