    Hi all,

Just wondering how would these cars fair out for high mileage/ commuters? As in fuel economy vrs diesel engines?

The little reading I've been doing on it is that it's a mild hybrid, kind of kicks in after going off the accelerator and powers air con? Due to a bereavement in the family I'm being offered to buy at a discount of pay back in installments, or they'll just sell it privately and get as much back as possible. Just I do over +25000 miles with work / commutes. It's a 2023 car

Before this I would have been looking at possibly upgrading to an s60 or v40

I somehow get the feeling these Suzuki cars are more suited to lower mileage?

I do like the car just a bit worried if the fuel economy wouldn't be suitable for me. Sorry not too up on these hybrid cars / SUVs

Being Japanese I’d say they are bulletproof reliable. Although I probably wouldn’t buy one for your sort of driving unless you were getting it for a good price. I’d imagine the fuel economy might not be too bad. I think when you disengage the throttle it will cut off the engine or start regenerating power.

Surely they’d let you drive it for a couple of hours to get an idea of fuel economy?

We have a Renault arkana with a similar mild hybrid system. Reliable stop/start and additional power at cruise and other driving conditions.

We've put about 10k on since November and it's returning about 6.9l/100km not world beating but pretty decent for a petrol car of it's size.

Your not going to get diesel fuel economy from a petrol car for that sort of driving. It would want to be going very cheap to offset the shortfall in fuel economy.

Thanks guys, I guess I need to put sentiments aside and probably right on my initial thoughts on the car.

Would be a mighty reliable car, just with my mileage and long drives just wouldn't have the fuel economy as a diesel

We purchased a brand-new mild hybrid Vitara in January '23, and it's been a pleasure to own. The Mild Hybrid system adds a nice touch, enhancing engine power when necessary and recharging during deceleration. It's not like a full hybrid where you can drive solely on electric power; rather, it acts as a boost, giving extra power to a modest three-cylinder engine.

Since its purchase, our fuel consumption has averaged around 48mpg (4.89 liters per 100 kilometers), based on continuous tracking without any resets. Longer journeys would likely improve this figure, as our usage includes frequent short trips along with occasional extended drives. Whether cruising on the motorway or navigating the twists of Connemara, the vehicle performs admirably. Though the trim may be considered basic, it's equipped with all the modern conveniences: adaptive cruise control, lane assist, overtaking sensors, switchable traction control, and more.

No trees were harmed in the posting of this message, however a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Still be better with diesel if doing 25k miles a year
