Same with us. RTE 1 and all the Irish channels glitchy and freezing. All other channels are fine

Yes, all the Irish channels are a bit glitchy

Is it back to normal now?

The SD Version of RTE One is still there and appears to be fine. (835 in NI)

SD versions of RTE 2 & TG4 no longer exist.

    branie2 - It's still a bit dodgy

Majority of Irish channels also skipping for me on sky.

Checked my IPTV and is the same so it's an issue from the feed end you'd persume.

Dreadful reception. All images pixelating and freezing. Why only RTE 1 & 2, TG4 & Virgin One & Two ?

Too much nepotism in the IT department ..

Has been mentioned over on the sky helpforum too. Seems widespread across all of sky's platforms.

I was trying to watch a nine o'clock news recording and I had to give up. It was constantly breaking up. Suffering through the ads on RTE player sure makes Sky really not worth paying for and I'm on the basic 10 euro pack. Reason why I record things is to avoid the ads.

I tried contacting sky but would have a better chance getting thru to extraterrestrial

Glitching all the time with me, I usually have glitching on CNN when a band of rain is south of my position but never RTE.

Problem is caused by interference from telecom towers. I have traced this in the past and reported it to the government department that looks after this type of thing. It was investigated but nothing happened. Found it in Athlone, Dublin and moate areas. Sky response in the past was to watch rte on sd.

How would a telecom tower affect satellite TV reception?

Terrestrial reception interference I understand but haven't come across the same for satellite reception.

Only way I could imagine terrestrial interference would happen is if it would be interfering on or near the IF output frequency after the LNB output - RTÉ 1 on 12226 MHz with a 10600 MHz IF gives 1626 MHz - that is not regular mobile (celluar) use (I remember even from the days of analogue satellite about the need for well-shielded coax cable near mobile phone masts) but according to Comreg for that & nearby frequencies it is reserved for satellite services including maritime mobile satellite, GMDSS and search & rescue.

Edit: Just realised that I forgot about Sky Wideband LNBs in use for Sky Q receivers, whose single IF is 10410 MHz - that would give a converted output for RTÉ 1 of 1816 MHz which is in the lower end of the downlink spectrum for GSM 1800/LTE Band 3/NR Band n3 (1805-1880 MHz) which if I'm correct is presently used by 3 IE. If you're near a 3 mobile base station, they might be the source of interference & the remedy would be checking the downlead from LNB to receiver, with replacement if necessary.

Yes, low grade satellite cabling came to mind but that would be a home owner issue rather than a Comreg interference issue.

Also remember the house DECT phones interfering with a particular I.F. frequency .

How would a telecom tower affect TV signal distribution over IP, like Sky Stream.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,204 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

no problems here but I had noticed especially last night some other channels glitchy and the picture momentarily freezing, mostly sports channels which isn’t ideal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,313 ✭✭✭✭branie2

The picture is funny on RTÉ 1 at the moment, and it's just that channel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭quinnd6

Picture looks all fuzzy on RTE 1 on Sky, thought my TV was having problems bit checked other channels and they were perfectso there's some problem with RTE and/or Sky.
