VRT Statistical Code?

I've a VW Beetle Dune being imported from Japan. It's a 1.4 petrol.

I've tried use the ROS.IE VRT form but it does not show any 1.4 petrol Beetles - only 1.2.

Look on any used car webpage and they have 1.4 so why does the bleeping VRT form not recognise them?

Does anyone have a stat code for a 1.4 CZD beetle I can use please?

You don’t need a stat code, they will still VRT it. It might get sent off to Revenue. But you won’t be able to calculate the VRT.

I bought a VW Touran with CTH engine code which isn’t on the calculator but theres loads of them here. The only engine code on the calculator is CAV

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the model year of the touran and how much did you end up paying VRT?

I’ve got a 2013 1.4 model arriving and like that I can’t get a valuation online .

2013 1.4 CTH. It only arrived yesterday so I haven’t VRT’d it yet. Check back with me after the 24th

Yeah its an absolute terrible calculator and system in general. I can never get an accurate figure from it.

To be fair the VRT calculator is 100% accurate as long as you fill all the correct details. The issue is when an exact make or model isn’t on the system it has to get sent for a statistical code and a manual valuation

Nha, I guess I could try sell it to a garage or something as is but I’l probably just pay it and take the loss. The car will stand me €10k so I’l probably only loose a few hundred euros or maybe break even. I could appeal the VRT and potentially get a partial refund, but you have to pay it before you can appeal it.

@User1998 can you go into more detail as to how they came to €4400, is it down to higher emissions, or just a crazy OMSP?

Yeah, so its 155g of Co2 but it gets converted to WLTP emissions, which puts it into the 35% VRT bracket. So that works out as an OMSP of €12,350.

Thats what happens when you import a car that isn’t on the VRT calculator. If it was already on the calculator it would probably have a ridiculously low OMSP like all other Jap imports so the VRT would be half what I paid.

I can’t even appeal it because a 2013 Jap import Touran is definitely worth €12k+ from dealers.

looks like there’s some type of update on vrt system. Still can’t access it online today.
