where to recycle old tires (small ones)?

I have some old tyres from wheelbarrows and the like. Seems none of the recycling facilities will take these, and as far as I can see the responsibility is passed on the tyre retailers. I don't fancy walking into the local tyre centre and asking them to dispose of a few small tyres… fair enough if it's in the price of a…

I don't fancy walking into the local tyre centre and asking them to dispose of a few small tyres… fair enough if it's in the price of a refit, but i reckon under those circumstances they'd 'see me coming'.
Any ideas?
