Hi all our central heating system has been switching off over the last few days. I changed the nozzle, photo cell, electrodes and gave the baffles a good clean out.
It started up ok and ran for about half an hour now it’s gone off and when I press the red reset button it’s almost like the motor is stalling.

    Any help much appreciated.

Might be the capacitor. Probably a proper service would be very advisable. Might save you buying unneeded parts and put it running safely and efficiently.

The burner was about 10 years old I ended up just changing the complete unit. One query though the new blast tube was smaller in length by about 50 mm.

You need to have the proper burner fitted and properly commissioned. You'd have been way better off getting your service person to sort out the previous burner.

It's likely producing lots of carbon monoxide (we know how dangerous that is) now. I'd advise you to turn it off until properly sorted.

Your old burner is almost good as new now especially as you have fitted many new parts. Don't dump it, there's at least another 10 years left in it. Next October/November stick it up on Done Deal or similar.

there is a possibility this burner may not be able to give the same output as your old one

if you have a shallow combustion chamber you may get away with it

All ok the kw rating band is the same as the old one. I replaced the blast tube with a new one the same length today. Just waiting for my engineer to adjust air and oil settings if required and check the readings on Monday.

This may be your type(s) below, the thermal output also depends on the combustion chamber pressure. My Riello G5X came with a T3 head, jetted with a 0.6H nozzle,

    what boiler do you have

Not at home for a few days to check but boiler and burner were all fitted as one unit about 10 years ago. As a rough guide there are 14 radiators in the house five are less than 500 mm in length. The new burner is the 744T2K

its a warmflow burner. your better off to leave the combustion head that came with the burner on it

It’s an RDB2.2 as used in many boilers.

But I would put the head to suit the boiler he has.

its a warmflow rdb2.2 short combustion head. not all rdb2.2 burners are the same.

The advice from the supplier was to swap the blast tube for the original one. The engineer came yesterday to check everything and left the new head which came with the burner on. All sorted now thanks for responding.

@Pavb2 Out of curiosity, what were the combustion results?

What was the flue gas temperature? What is the make and model of the boiler. Post a pic if you like.

But why do you think that? He said it’s a 744T2K which is an RDB2.2 used in various boilers. Where do warmflow come into it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,974 ✭✭✭jimf

you cant change the head from a short to a long as the nozzle will be too far back in the combustion head

    also photocell may not suit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭declan b

744T2K is a RDB2.2 short combustion head 70/90 warmflow specified burner. There is many types of rdb2.2 burners
