Buying hearing aids is it a lottery?

A friend aged 72 is convinced they should get hearing aids,, test shows hearing in right ear is poor and it was noted there was some wax. They go for a test tomorrow from Specsavers, who A, booked them in immediately, B rang this morning to confirm. I know nothing about hearing aids except I know they appear way over…

A friend aged 72 is convinced they should get hearing aids,, test shows hearing in right ear is poor and it was noted there was some wax. They go for a test tomorrow from Specsavers, who A, booked them in immediately, B rang this morning to confirm. I know nothing about hearing aids except I know they appear way over priced but is there any particular model that is good all round? They are aware PRSI will donate €1000.00.

My suggestion is audiologist first, unrelated to the company that is potentially offering you hearing aids. They might even not be the right solution for your hearing loss!
