Hi, I am considering a single storey extension 20sqm to rear of a mid terrace house. I can see in some articles that the criteria for exemption includes the extension must not come closer than 1m from party wall ! Is this different for terraced house as any extension would need be full width of rear of house, so from party wall on one side to the other side. Obviously no windows on side.

T he 1 metre applies where there are windows or doors in the wall facing the boundary. That is at ground floor level. First floor walls with Windows have to be 11 metres from the boundary they are facing.

Just make sure that you have a minimum of 25 sq. metres of open space remaining in order to preserve the exemption.
