Attaching clip on mudguards - rubber straps broken

I have very old and small clipon mudguards for my road bike. The rubber straps have degraded.

How should I attach them? Velcro? New straps (where could I get some)? Cable ties?

With the shipping costs these all become quite expensive. I might try some cable ties as I've a good few sizes around and also see if I can get some basic velcro.

I'd go with cable ties. Buy a pack so that you can replace when cleaning bike etc. I'd also wrap a piece of old tube around the seat stay to prevent scratching.

hair bobbins? you just need something that can hook around though hooks. If they're a bit long you can stretch them all the way around the fork an extra time.

I've used hair bands in the past without issue, sorry I only just remembered and worked fine, cost very little (or if someone in your house already has long heair, you might be able to misappropriate them.

cable ties will work but yep make sure to protect the frame. consider also adding inner tube between the mudguard mount and the frame.. those protective stickers/pads degrade over time also as I've just found.

OP where are you based? I think I have some of those older race blade straps somewhere. I'm away at moment, back on Sunday evening. I could have a look on Monday and if I have some I'm sure can figure out how to get some to you

I bought them from one of the German online shops, but before I found them online I used rubber o rings as a replacement for each one. Just loop it around the inside hook, around the stay and then around the second hook. The o-rings I used ( probably from the Lidl or Aldi multi size box of them) eventually broke after a few months winter use.

I've installed a single small cable tie to each side (4 in all). The frame had a protective sticker for where the mount sits on the frame. I'll redo to add inner tube protection another day (I was in a rush yesterday).
