New notice on Motor Tax website:

"When taxing your vehicle online, you will no longer be required to enter your insurance details. The Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland have a new dedicated insurance database, the Irish Motor Insurance Database (IMID), which contains policy holder details and vehicle registration numbers covered by each policy. The data in the IMID is provided by motor insurers, brokers, fleet owners and motor traders. This new insurance database is being used by An Garda Síochána to support enforcement of the legal requirement for motor insurance."

Suits me, it's a pain having to search my emails for my policy number 😆

I used to make up a sequence of letters and numbers on the form

Yeah, @chasm, you never needed to search for anything, you could always literally put 123467890 into that field and it would work. It was never linked to anything, just needed to be populated.

Still, nice that they've finally scrapped the pretence.

I did have a chuckle when I saw the message, I've never put in a real policy number.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
