I noticed old discussions that it’s possible to transfer your pay if you are working in the public service. Can someone transfer pay from Garda to the prison service ? The circular attached mentions public servants can transfer pay on to new scale.

Incremental credit only applies where certain analogous conditions apply such as the roles are similar in nature, must have been a permanent and pensionable position and your current max of the scale must not be higher than your new scale. A prison officer duties might be similar in some cases to a garda but generally a garda duties would not be considered similar to the duties of a prison officer overall and your payscale I'm guessing is higher than a recruit prison officers. Therefore incremental credit will/should not apply and you will take up the new role at point 1 of the rpo scale. Of course there could be exceptions to the norm but only the IPS hr team will be able to advise further. Give them a ring or email for guidance.

HI there, just wondering if I could get advice please, I am in the public service with a pension but it is a fixed term contract. I have been offered a position in the civil service which is permanent and pensionable and the starting point is much lower than my current salary. I queried with HR in civil service and they advised after reviewing my salary that I should get the same salary that I am currently as the role it satisfies analogous conditions. I am just a bit concerned as my current role is not permanent and also I plan on having a few weeks between jobs so there could be a break in service . I have not handed my notice in yet as I have not received a contract but I want to ensure of the salary before I do, just wondering if anyone knows if there can be an issue if I have a break in service and how to get conclusive and binding confirmation of the salary on contract or what the process is?

The break in service of over 6 months is only an.issue if you are in the old defined benefit pension scheme..you are in the single scheme I take it. I came from public sector to civil service. Gap was 5 weeks. But allowed me time to get my leave, salary etc tied down and written into the contract. I would get contract etc signed, then hand in your notice to old job.

Thanks a million, yes good advice to get all signed and sealed before handing in the notice.
