Stanley Superstar problem.

I have a 30 year old Stanley Superstar 80000. It has been regularly serviced and until recently has never had a major problem. Over the last few months it periodically shuts down unexpectedly, as a result of solid carbon falling down on top of the burner, resulting in the burner lockout being activated. The carbon appears to be coming from the back of the main baffle plate and looks like chunks of black carbon. Anyone got any idea why this is happening?
