would anyone know if this counts as indirect messaging

The person who I’m not allowed to contact if I ask there friend if the person talks about me is that indirect messaging

as I’m not asking them to pass info on or anything I’m just asking if that person talks about me

Just let it go. Don't go tinkering around the margins of something like that. It can come back and bite you.

    Yes it is.

    Quite blatant too.

When you say "not allowed", are you referring to a court order for no contact?
