I bought the following with F connectors to run satellite and Saorview to additional locations in the house, However it doesn't seem to be working, I can't get a proper tight crimp on the wire and connector.

Is this just a dud, too late to return as I bought ages ago, any suggestions to help get it working or a decent one I can buy?

I haven't ever used one on a coax cable, prefer the twist on type.

What spec coax cable are you using?

Different size cable might need blue connectors , i will route mine out to see if blue are smaller .

Black might be for thicker cable?

CT100 spec cable is common for sat installs, I don't see it mentioned in the spec for that crimper.

What about the difference between shotgun cable and single core?

I bought that same tool. Absolute muck. Buy the twist version as the poster above suggests.

    Thanks for replies

Using two types of cable, saorview is on standard single cable. Satellite is on dual cable which is thinner.

Sorry don't have exact type of cable, I'll take a picture of both in the morning, I'll put a pencil beside them for scale

If you can snip a little bit of cable and go into local electrical wholesalers- best at 11am or 3pm when the professional sparks are busy working. The staff will have more time for the diy people to get you a good twist on connector.

Mondays are never a good day!

Shotgun cable is generally thinner than standard single cable, unless using CT100 twin, something like 5mm vs 7mm approx.

The right connector for the right cable.

The tool you got might be fine, but the connectors with it are for RG6 cable which is heavy enough.
I agree with @Anaki r2d2 that the right twist on connectors are the best solution - buy enough of them to change your mind on extend things later.

If you get down to the electrical shop with a small offcut they could show you both to see how much difference there is.

PS: @Anaki r2d2 , what did you find that crimper let you down on?

its long gone at this stage. From memory I could not get It to compress the connector onto the cable. My recollection was it was flimsy too.

Once I got the proper connector from local wholesale, the job was a breeze. With the crimp tool, I was messing around and getting annoyed
