Shower ventilation fan.

Is it possible to wire a timed shower ventilation fan in a way that it'll turn on when the shower is switched on on the shower unit - not when the shower pull switch is switched on?

I wired my fan to activate when the shower comes on using a current sensing relay on the shower cable

So yes it's possible. I'm a spark so that helps

It's against the wiring regulations to have anything else on an electric shower circuit. Absolutely nothing from the shower right back to the fuse box so I don't see any way to do it for an electric shower & be able to meet the regulations.

The timed fan should be wired into the light switch & not the shower. The regulations for a power shower may be slightly different and a fan might be possible. You will need a REC to carry out this work regardless & they will be able to confirm what is allowed and what isn't before issuing you with a safety certificate

Fan wiring can be totally independent of shower circuit

Not aware of any reason why a fan should be linked to a light switch, even though it's commonly done

I know my ensuite anyway I don't want the 10min overrun everytime i take a quick pee or having to turn on/off a fan which is why I used sensing relay method

Fan is activated by electric shower

Humidistat would do a similar job I suppose to what the op asked

It’s possible to have a double light switch with one switch used solely for the extractor fan and the other for the regular light.

That way, it’s possible to use the bathroom in the middle of the night without the noise of the fan.

It depends on how you have set it. I just had one installed and it's on its own switch. I found you can't rely on the humidity sensor to turn off the fan reliably. I bought this one

Ya but I'd wonder about those fans ability to extract moist air

The manrose I fitted has 10x that fans max flow rate

The sensor relay and overrun is a great automated setup , ya never have to look at a switch or a humidistat setting after .

Do you have a window in the room? The fan I linked to has two speed settings and I've it at the lower.. much quieter and it works well. More extraction means a louder fan.. inline in the attic with ducting is probably the best way to go it you need maximum extraction
