Sick Leave query

Hi everyone, I've had to take a period of sick leave this year for a chronic condition and was referred to Medmark. I have been back at work for the last couple of months, but am having a flare up now which might mean missing another couple of weeks.
If I was unable to be back for the end of the year will this mean the summer will be included in sick leave, especially when I will not be back on the first day in September because of career break. Appreciate any info, thanks.

Unfortunately it will. If you are out sick on last day of term and first day of term, any holidays in between are counted as sick days.

Just seen you are on career break from 1st of September. You need to ring union to get clarification on this.

    Best of luck.

    Hi Peppermint,

I don't have much to add except that you can return to work any day of the year. That means you can be declared fit to return to work in mid July, for example, and your sick leave counter stops ticking. As long as you're in the building on the first day in August, missing the last day of school doesn't automatically mean that the entire summer holidays are written off as sick leave.

You can get a doctor to provide you with a cert declaring you are fit to return to work. Once you submit that they must return you back to normal pay regardless of wether the school is closed for the summer.
