Bringing a Ford Escort shell from EU

Hi, my husband and I will be moving to Ireland from Cyprus later in the year and he wants to bring a car shell with him to restore. We have searched but cannot find a clear answer to what we have to do when it arrives. Obviously it is not roadworthy and it will be arriving in a container with our household goods. Can anyone point me in the right direction, we contacted customs but we need to contact them using their website and currently don't have an account. Any help is appreciated, thanks

I don't think you have to do anything (open to correction here)

Now, when the car is restored and roadworthy, you'll have to tax, insure, NCT and pay VRT on it.

You'll pay VRT on the value of the car in its roadworthy condition, not the value of the shell you brought into the country.

Presume this Escort is over 30 years old so the VRT will be the flat rate of €200.

You can only VRT a complete car that is running. You can't VRT a box of bits

VRT the car once it is running. It counts as a classic, so the rate is 200€. There is in theory a fee for "late registration", for classics, it's capped at 200€, but it's a hit or miss if they'll apply it, so you'll spend 200-400€ on vrt. It does say on the website that the car has to be VRTed within a month of entry, but the guy at the desk said to just bring the car in when it's roadworthy.
