    not my summary

The previous version Part B 2006 had prescriptive limitations on using materials that were anything other than non-combustible (A1-A2 class). This was interpreted as an embargo on the use of #Masstimber & #CLT on structural systems on floors over 10m high. An essential solution to #decarbonising the built environment, where new buildings are needed alongside #retrofit.

The new Part B technical guidance facilitates a performance based approach, - providing materials & systems satisfy key perameters such as; structural integrity, insulation against heat and; the tricky ‘spread of flame’ criteria must be satisfied. Appendix A lists such a set of criteria, commonly used by #FireEngineering professionals to assess compliance based on burn hall type testing. The apppendix adds some clarification & detail on how to interpret a performance route to compliance.
