RR Evoque - Should I keep or trade in?

I have a RR Evoque 212 reg. It's on PCP untill Sep 25 and I have been saving in order to be able to pay the balloon payment due at the end. My original plan was to pay it off and keep it for a few years untill the fully electric Evoque is available.

However the warranty on it expires in Sept 2023 ( I know I should have gone for the 3 year PCP) and I am thinking I should perhaps get rid before it does. I have had no issues with the car and I'm very happy with it but the lack of warranty from September is making me nervous.

    What would you do?

    A) Trade it in. I would happily go for another Evoque or perhaps an all electric as I currently have a plug in hybrid and a charger at home. The depreciation in electrics at the moment is steering me towards another plug in hybrid untill things settle down in electric pricing.

    B) Keep it and pay off the balloon payment and hope nothing major goes wrong with it.

Can you not purchase an extended warranty?

I don't believe landrover offer extended warranty in the South.

Is it the 2 litre ingenium engine?

It's the p300e 1.5lt petrol plug in hybrid

I haven't heard of any hybrid problems with land rovers but maybe I am mistaken

With the price of new cars now. I think keeping it would be wise and it will hold its value well

It's unlikely that stuff going wrong will cost more than the tena of thousand euro depreciation you'll suffer if buying new again.

Your version doesn't seem to be hugely unreliable so if happy I'd just keep it and set some money aside for repairs at a specialised independent.

It seems like there is a 6 year / 100k km warranty on the battery and electric motor. Are you below 100k km? If so I would keep it until then or until your PCP is finished. Although Land Rovers are not reliable cars its quite unlikely you’ll have any major repairs to deal with since it’s still new enough car. Maybe some minor things but I wouldn’t expect anything major.

Can you get rid of the car when the pcp is not up yet ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭Frankie19

There is only 42k on it. It seems they introduced a 5 year full warranty since 2023 on all RR

Yes you can trade in whenever you want on a PCP. You clear the financed owed on the PCP when refinancing and carry any equity left into the new car.

Father in law has bought a new RR plug in every year since their introduction. Every single one has had an issue with the hybrid system, except the new machine ( maybe they’ve finally got it right?). That includes the car that barely moved during lock down.

Thanks all. I have decided to hold onto it. I happened to be near the RR garage today so called in. Shocked at how much the prices have increased since I bought mine for the same spec, looking at an extra €18k compared to what i purchased for in 2021!! Trade In price being offered wasn't great either so it's a no brainer to keep it.

The sales rep doesn't think the fully electrics will be here untill at least 2026. It's crazy they are so far behind.

Their sister company Jaguar is the one making EV’s right now.

Wonder why they aren't bringing it across to RR. Sales rep mentioned they might go straight to Hydrogen instead.

Don’t listen to anything that person tells you. They’re already taking names for the fully electric RR, which is expected to launch by the end of year.

He was referencing the Evoque for 2026 and he did mention they are taking names for the RR electric but there is no official date of launch or pricing released yet.
