Hanging Second Row of Kitchen Cabinets

    Hi there,

I am planning to add a second row of wall cabinets above the existing ones in order to add more storage space (very high ceilings).

In terms of fixing them to the wall, I was wondering if it is best to:

1: Place them on top of the existing ones and fix to the wall or

2: Add a 1mm or 2mm spacing above the existing ones before fixing

My thinking is that if I go with option 1 then the weight of the cabinets plus contents could be weighing down on the original cabinets, whereas with option 2 they will support their own weight (and possibly drop to meet the existing cabinets once contents are added)

Are there any best practices here?
