New Order - Peter Hook, original bassist (not quite the same in this case)

Queen - Freddie Mercury (R.I.P.), lead singer - how can Brian and Roger keep the name going without Freddie? Honorary mention too to former bassist John Deacon

Doors - Jim Morrison (R.I.P,), lead singer - kept going with keyboardist Ray Manzarek on vocals

Sometimes a change of member in a band can work, but not always. Have you any other examples, in your opinion?

Who else? Metallica went to **** after him, AJFA was heavily influenced by Cliff and the black album was alright (but nothing compared to RTL or MoP!

One could argue that the Human League sound changed somewhat when founding members Martyn Ware and Iain Craig Marsh left the band. In its early days under their influence, the Human League was more experimental and less pop-driven.

Indeed. Look at Spandau Ballet - the rest of the band sacked Tony Hadley and as far as I know have produced nothing since.

I like Dio and all but for me Black Sabbath needs Ozzy.

Gravediggaz subsequent albums after Prince Paul stepped away from production. Not bad but nowhere close to 6 Feet Deep

Brothers Johnson after they departed from Quincy Jones' production and guidance.

The Undertones coped well with a new singer (Paul McLoone replacing Feargal Sharkey) - two good albums.

The Clash weren't great after Mick Jones left but they were still The Clash and This Is England is fab.

Marillion replaced their singer (Fish) in 1988 and Steve Hogarth took his place. Both incarnations have produced fantastic work.

Genesis survived the loss of Peter Gabriel by replacing him with the drummer who actually sounds like him. Listen to the 1977 live Seconds Out and especially Supper's Ready. Hard to tell them apart.
