Merlin park Hospital Tree cutting

Could someone explain what is going in Merlin park?

Last year the Cherry Blossom and Apple trees were cut down, this year a few small woods were cut down.

This morning I noticed that the trees over near the Grave were cut down.

You'd think these would be appreciated in hospital grounds

The HSE claimed Ash Die Back for cutting the trees last year. I don't buy it.

They are probably claiming similar again, hopefully they at least did a survey to see what trees were actually in the ground before cutting them all down this time.

What's your evidence for your assertions? Why would the HSE give a false reason?

I doubt they are lying.

Im not sure about the situation in Galway but I believe the ash dieback situation will be very very severe this year and it will become quite apparent that a lot (maybe most) will be dead in some areas, and these are all going to become quite dangerous.

If you have 10 ash trees, 1 will have obvious die back and several more will be affected by it , fatally, and have honey fungus disease as well.

Absolutely brutal in much of county Galway, worse than a lot of other places I've seen.

I'm in county Cork, one row of them I thought was ok last Spring, are nearly half gone now. The all of a sudden aspect of it is frightening.

I have years of cutting ahead, like most farmers will.

Could be that officialdom in there do not like trees. Who cares about the sense of enjoyment/well being they give

They cut down +200 trees in merlin park last year. When queried on it, they said it was due to Ash Die Back. But, not all were Ash trees and no tree surveys were done

Parts of cavan and Meath absolutely wrecked. Umpteen that need to be dropped over our very small farm. Its a bloody massive ecological disaster and theres not much being said about it for whatever reason.

Maybe Friends of Merlin Woods would be the best people to contact. They were the first to highlight the trees cut last year.
