Can anyone tell me if you can get a job as an engineer in a county council with a level 8 construction management degree and relevant experience.

Or does it strictly have to be an engineering degree.

    thanks

There's a review of exactly this happening at the moment. It was on hold pending the results of a recent high court hearing but appears to be in progress again. I suggest reaching out to fellow graduates who are working as assistant or executive engineers in local authority for further information.

Ive heard its an issue with the qualification. Level 8 Engineering degree qualifies however B.Sc. degrees appears to be the issue. I think the horse has bolted on this one. Lots of engineers taken on with Construction Management Degrees. Ive no skin in this game just letting you know what ive heard from engineers within councils.

The review has been completed and the dept have forwarded their recommendations to the Unions. Proposal is to look for engineers, project managers, construction managers and energy managers instead of looking for people with engineering degrees. Also reducing the requirement from Level 8 to Level 7.

That's a brief run of the proposal. I can't see the unions passing the proposal for Level 7 degrees being accepted.

Senior Executive and upwards - Level 8.
