It would be odd if we didn't judge somebody with 11 penalty points for speeding. Almost zero effort required to come to that judgement.

The reason I asked was more from an actuarial perspective: points for more severe offences such as careless driving will be weighted more heavily than for speeding

I seriously doubt that the insurance business has scales of 'good points' and 'bad points'. My guess is that you will be royally screwed at your next renewal and expect multiple refusals if you look to shop around.

My understanding is that they are all bad but when you define the offences behind the ploints, they will judge you more harshly when quoting, on some of the more severe offences e.g. Dangerous overtaking

I recall hearing it long ago but as the insurance companies don't make their quote calculations public, it is possibly just one of those things that we'll never know for sure.

You could help answer that question - assuming that you've declared them, did your insurance company ask you how you managed to accumulate 11 points? What I mean is did they ask you to list off each event where you picked up points and say whether each one was a court conviction or a speeding penalty notice?

When I got my renewal last year when I had six they had penalty points loading written on the quote but does say they do check plenty points them self's

So they only know about your points because they have access to the database? Your post suggests that you've never told them.

I do tell them but the point I am making is my next renewal date will be for the 11

Without being judgemental, you earned the points so you now earn the right to be a higher insurance risk and can expect the insurance market to not want to go near you.

The whole idea of the penalty points system is to give you the opportunity to change your behaviour before it becomes too late. You can still change your behaviour now!
