Criminal background checks, state or semi-state bodies

I have a criminal conviction from when I was 19, was working security, damaged some property horsing around and they prosecuted me. Pleeded guilty and was given probation.

That was over 20 years ago, closer to 30 than 20 actually.

I'm applying for a job at a state body (not Garda or Military) and I just realised that I've no idea if they'll be able to see if this conviction.

Does anyone know how any of this works?
