Hi, bought a new VW polo R line in August 2022 within 2 months the car lost power and the smell of burning was unreal I actually thought the car was going to burst into flames. Car got recovered taken to the dealer who could find nothing wrong with it! Now 18 months from date of purchasing car the clutch has burnt out. Not under warranty as a clutch they say is wear and tear . Dealership are debating with VW customer service. Where do I stand ?

You were very much standing on the clutch pedal.

A clutch is a wear and tear item.

You’ll most likely have to pay the invoice yourself.

I wouldn’t draw it out by waiting for VW to cover it unless there is a terrible underlying problem found.

Clutch is indeed a wear and tear item.

Burning smell reported after 2 months?

Clutch burnt out after 18 months?

I'd be gambling on an independent automotive engineer's report!

The wife is very hard on the clutch, and regularily suspects the car is going to go on fire when she uses a multistory carpark

But has still gotten over 5 years out of it

You know to always press it fully down, when using it, and dont rest your foot on the pedal when not using it and avoid reving when its partially pressed

Thanks for that. No I am not hard on clutch think was faulty from the start judging by what happened 2 months in

The fact that the car lost power with a terrible smell of burning says there’s been an issue since then.
