Exemption letter for VRT

Hello all,

I moved recently (early February 2024) to Ireland from NI and brought my car with me.

As stated in the revenue i have to make the VRT appoitment within 30 days of arriving to the state. In terms of payment, I read that I have to paid the full amount of VRT unless I have an exemption letter.

I have started the process to obtain the exemption letter from Customs but I will not get an answer before the VRT appoitment. Does it mean i have to pay the full VRT amount?

Any comments will be helpful.

"Additional VRT is charged when a vehicle is not registered within 30 days.

The additional VRT is added to the total VRT due. The additional charge is calculated by multiplying the total VRT due by 0.1%. An additional 0.1% is added on for every day the vehicle is not registered, from the date of its first entry."

Thank you. I have the VRT appoitment this week so that would not be a problem. My question is that I will not have the exemption letter on the time of the appoitment since I am still on the process to obtain all the required documents

Give them a call, I've found them to be fairly helpful.
