Buying a van from ni that's on a UK plate vx66....

The seller is saying it was registered in ni before brexit and its only 200e vrt and no nox.

When it was first brought to ni, was it not supposed to have changed to Ni plates.

If it turns out it wasn't registered in ni before brexit, what's the rates of vrt and nox.

    Buying from a small dealer

Are you buying it in northern Ireland? If so, look it up on the governments vrt calculator. Best way to know

The VRT is no different whether it was in UK or NI. The difference is VAT and duty. Was the van always registered to a VAT registered trader? What will he do re invoice etc.

NI plates are UK plates, although they're not the same as UK plates issued in GB. Same yellow colour /different configuration.

Wiki "Within the UK itself, there are two systems: one for Great Britain, whose current format dates from 2001, and another for Northern Ireland".

So if it was a mainland UK reg, then it'll be subject to vat and duty.

The van is in the North on English plates. The seller who is a dealer said it was registered in the north before brexit but plates where never changed and all I'll have to pay is 200e when changing it over. He didn't mention vat or duty.

I went seen the van last night. Was very interested in it but the coolant light came on blue twice when I was driving it. I was hoping to buy it there and then before this happened. Now I'm not to sure. Maybe it's nothing but the fact it came on twice I now have my suspicions!

There is no requirement to change plates when a vehicle is moved from Britain to NI, nor is it usual nowadays.

So the number plate is neither here nor there, the only question is when it was moved and how you show this.
